A sand cooler, traditionally known as a zeer pot, is a low-tech, electricity-free cooling device that uses evaporative cooling to keep food and other perishables fresh in hot, arid environments.
How It Works:Two clay pots (one smaller than the other) are used.
The smaller pot is placed inside the larger one, and the space between them is filled with wet sand.
The entire setup is covered with a damp cloth.
As the water in the sand evaporates, it draws heat away from the inner pot, cooling the contents inside.
Requires no electricity.
Ideal for rural or off-grid areas.
Can keep fruits, vegetables, and dairy products fresh for days or even weeks.
Used in parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Popular among sustainable living enthusiasts and preppers.
